  2. Background What is Braille? Braille is a series of raised dots that can be read with the fingers by people who are blind or whose eyesight is not sufficient for reading printed material. Teachers, parents, and others who are not visually impaired ordinarily read Braille with their eyes. Braille is not a language. Rather, it is a code by which languages such as English or Sinhala may be written and read.

Background cont... • In this system targets General exams in Sri Lanka like Ordinary Level(O\L) or Advance Level(A\L) • Basically exam paper creator only creates English version of the exam paper • If he needs to create Braille version of that paper he need external person who expert in Braille language • That conversion process is time consuming and unsecure • Using this system exam paper creator can convert standard exam paper to Braille paper by not getting any help of external person

Research Objectives • Common Objectives • To provide a perfect solution for how to convert Braille words into computer readable format and Standard English words into Braille words • To implement Offline Character Recognition System for Braille character recognition • To reduce the wasting time of typing Braille version of the exam paper or any other document • To provide the facility of editing the converted document after the conversion by providing an editor • To recognize words in the scanned document by achieving accuracy level between 80% - 90%
