  4. Mental Learning Task • Today we are going to do some work on subtraction. • I am going to give you some sums to solve in your head.

  15. Mental Learning Task • Lets look at some of these sums again. • When writing these sums, it is important the larger number goes first. • Write a number sentence for each of these sums.

  21. Main Learning Task • Today we are going to look at taking away. • We are going to work as a class.

  22. Main Learning Task • I need 4 volunteers. • Give two of them large number cards • Give two large phrase cards.

  23. Main Learning Task • Ask the four children to arrange themselves facing the class so that when they hold up their cards, they make an unfinished number sentence. • Get the class to chant the complete sentence aloud.

  24. Main Learning Task • Can another child find the right number card? • The class now chants the whole sentence. • Replace the phrase words.
