Goals of IWIS • Assess the educational attainment of Indiana’s workers • Monitor the education-to-work pipeline • Monitor what happens to workers who lose their jobs (e.g., layoffs & closings) • More appropriate data to measure outcomes of government programs in a broader context • Inform public policy
Worker Event Record Multiple IDWD Databases Dimension Dimension Worker Event Records Adult Basic Education Records Higher Education Records Worker-centered Wage, unemployment, new hire and other workforce records used to create “worker-event records” Then matched with data from other state records
Early Results Unexpected finding: In 38 out of 92 counties, those with a recent associate’s degree earned more than those with a recent bachelor’s degree.
