  2. Foundation Jobs • 2 years ‘Foundation’ Training • 6 x 4 month rotations • National application system for allocation to to a deanery • Then apply to a specific job when you get into the deanery

  3. What happens? • Applications- AUTUMN OF YEAR 5 • “MTAS” / “UKFPO” • National online application system • Questions, quartiles, references

  4. Format of the application • Points for academic Achievements • 5-6 questions about personal experiences: • Reflect on cases you have seen • Patient seen within 24 hours • What you would do when a colleague does something which could affect the patient’s care • Describe a memorable lecture/teaching session and what you have learnt from this- how this will affect how you might teach in the future • YOU MUST BE ABLE TO VERIFY YOUR ANSWERS

  5. Pilot- to be implemented 2012 • Situational Judgment test • Educational Performance • Common content of finals exams- question bank

  6. Academic Marks- Currently • Quartiles: 40/100 points (not 100%) • Extra points for: • BSc/LBB/BA/MSc/PhD • National presentations • Publications • National prizes/awards

  7. Quartiles Currently at Bristol: • ALL exam marks, except Molecular and Cellular Medicine from year 1 • More weighting of year 3 and 4 marks Quartile points 1st = 40 2nd =38 3rd= 36 4th = 34

  8. References • 2 references • 1 Clinician (who has observed your clinical skills) • 1 person associated with the Medical School/ University (Does not have to be a medical doctor- can be intercalation supervisor) • 4th year GP • Unit tutors • SSC supervisors • Intercalation supervisors

  9. Academic Jobs • 5 x 4 month CLINICAL rotations, • 1 x 4 month ACADEMIC rotation • APPLY IN MAY/JUNE 4TH YEAR- for a specific job • SEPARATE APPLICATION SYSTEM- application form + interview

  10. Academic Application • BSc/ further degrees • Research: publications, presentations • Teaching experience • WHY YOU WANT TO DO ACADEMIC MEDICINE
