CMS items • From the XEB: • Serious new Vidyo release >15-Oct addresses several problems. EVO going to be difficult to run >01-Jan • Long discussion of 25ns test running in 2012: worth to do? • “Everyone” assumes 1st year of 13 TeV running will be at luminosity < 7E33 (present value) • So why not stay at 50ns for first year? • So why waste time now with this test vs. more Higgs data?
CSC items • This week’s summary for XEB: • Operations: CSC running fine, readout efficiency is 97.5%. A turbine died last Friday night just after LHC had dumped the beam and was replaced during an urgent access; this is the 3rd dead turbine this year. • DPG: in simulation, a 4 ns timing shift, relevant for HSCP search, was observed and traced to changes made between 4_3 and 4_4 - this can be fixed in their private re-reco. • ME4/2 production: Production continuing on schedule, 18th chamber finished, while 10 fully tested and ready for P5 installation. • ME1/1 electronics: Decision made to not pursue the FF_EMU chip as the primary option for control of DCFEBs, due to schedule concerns. A prototype junction box for LV power is being built and will be tested in B904. NB: Bylsma prefers “option 2” where most control still done with optical, Cu is used only for JTAG recovery if FPGA “borked”
Other recent CSC worries • ME1/1 upgrade simulation: • Unganged strips code needs to be merged into CMSSW_6_1 by November… work involves Tim (coordinating, reco), Vadim K & Slava (trigger) • ALCT scarcity at ME4/2 factory: • At 1 chamber per week, ~8 left including Spartan run out ~late-November(?) • Including 3 Spartan-6: fair to include?? • Put 4 Spartan-6 cards on new ALCT base boards • Test them, hopefully work right away ship to CERN • Testing: bring Chris Lee up to speed • Test 10 ALCT-384 “broken” boards • If base board is broken, match still-working mezz cards with new base boards? • Build new Spartan-6 mezz cards, test with new base boards, ship to CERN…
From 3 wks ago: ALCT planning • ME4/2 factory at building 904 at CERN: • Inventory (Xiaofeng) 19 boards received in April, 7 mounted already on chambers, 4 have problems, leaving 8 more ALCT on hand • Allows uninterrupted testing for ~8 more weeks (~early November) • 3 Spartan-6 mezzanine – to be tested on Weds… presuming okay… • Could ship 4 complete ALCT from UCLA lab with Spartan-6 mezz, and 3 more working base boards OK for total ~15 weeks? (~January) • Ask factory to ship back non-working ALCT for testing • Making more Spartan-6 cards: • Change order 80 160 almost approved… • Check time line, including edge effects: • m weeks from now: revisions to layout • n weeks after: PCB manufacture • q weeks after: mezz card assembly • r weeks after: test okay and first shipment (4 or more boards) to CERN • Need m+n+q+r< 15 weeks, e.g. 13 for m=4, n=3, q=3, r=3 • Or fix some more boards – possible??
