THE RISKS FURTHER DEFINED • STEELHEAD • BULL TROUT • IMPACT TO EXISTING RIGHTS • OPERATIONAL CHANGES REGULATED OR NEGOTIATED? • AGE • UNSTABLE GEOLOGY • STORM EVENTS • CANAL FAILURE • LONG TERM OPERATION ESA LISTED SPECIES MAIN CANAL
LOOK BACKWARD TO LOOK FORWARD • STARTING WITH 100 YEAR CELEBRATION OF WATER DELIVERY 1910 T0 2010 • WHAT DO WE HAVE ? • WHAT DO WE NEED ? • DEVELOP STRATEGY TO HELP SOLVE THE INDENTIFIED RISKS • SOME OF THE STRATEGY JUST HAPPENED AND SOME WAS PLANNED
Rehabilitation and Betterment Project 1982-87 • Complete piping of Delivery system • 78 Million Dollars construction cost • 220 miles of new pipe • 2000 plus turnouts • New Reservoir at French Canyon • 6 pump stations • 2 in-line hydropower plants • 95% efficient delivery
Cowiche Creek Watershed Fish use and delisting discussion by David Child, DC Consulting LLC
WHAT DO WE NEED? • DEVELOP A STRATEGY TO HELP SOLVE THE IDENTIFIED RISKS • MAKE THE YTID MAIN CANAL AN INTEGRAL PART OF A FISH RECOVERY/RESTORATION PROJECT • COWICHE CREEK PROJECT • MAIN CANAL ALTERNATIVES ANALYSIS • $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ MONEY
CCWUA PROJECT • YTID TO WHEEL WATER THROUGH OUR SYSTEM TO CCWUA (WATER DELIVERY AGREEMENT) • CCWUA POINT OF DIVERSION CHANGED FROM COWICHE CREEK TO TIETON RIVER • WATER NORMALLY DIVERTED FROM CREEK LEFT IN STREAM FOR FISH BENEFIT • BUILD PARTNERSHIPS FOR CURRENT AND FUTURE YTID PROJECTS

NEXT STEPS, OPTIONS AND PROJECTS • CONTINUE TO REFINE THE MAIN CANAL ALTERNATIVES DESIGN AND COSTS • CONTINUE TO DEVELOP COMPHREHENSIVE LOOK AT COWICHE CREEK SOUTH FORK AND MAIN STEM. • INCLUDE THE AHTANUM BASIN OPTION • INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT OF THE YAKIMA BASIN INTEGRATED PLAN
