DHQ • Derived from AABB which is based on FDA regulations
DHQ • Why ask questions? • Asking questions helps determine the overall suitability of the donor; from this, the donor will be: • Accepted • Temporarily deferred • Permanently deferred
AABB DHQ • Two pages • 48 questions • We modified it: • Compressed and combined some question • Currently 1 page with 32 questions • Added questions • Available in 4 different languages

Malaria • 3 year deferral if the donor becomes asymptomatic after infection • 3 year deferral after the immigrant/citizen departs from the endemic area • 12-month deferral if a person travels to an endemic area and shows no symptoms on return
Malaria • We test for Malaria • Test all coming from endemic areas • Test all with recent history of travel to Malarie endemic area • Currently working on developing a new policy
future • Introduce barcoded sticker system for confedential unit exclusion • Malaria testing policy • vCJD deferral policy to be revisited • Abbreviated questionnaire for regular donors • Improve our internal audit and AABB regulation implementation system
