  2. Independence • 1947 peace treaty stated that British Somaliland became independent • Italian Somaliland became independent after ten years of Italian rule • When Italian Somaliland became independent, the two nations joined to become Somalia

  3. Positive or Negative • Democracy lasted until assassination of president which lead to complete military control • Many different wars, leads to rebellion within citizens • No foundation was established for a stable government because of constant conflict
