Holidays in costa Rica • Christmas • Nativity scenes are set up all around town, and the business or house with the best nativity scene receive a prize • Carolers go to houses and sing for the residence. Residence provide refreshments for the carolers. • Independence Day • September 15 • Patriotic parades can be found all around that celebrate Costa Rica’s independence from Spain in 1821 • Holy Week • First week in April • One of the most religious holidays in Costa Rica • Plays are performed depicting stories of the new testament, and Jesus’ death and resurrection
