MARINE BIOLOGY AT NMU SUMMER 2006 • BI 495A Introductory Marine Biology 3cr: 5/22-6/9/06 • Course will cover basic marine biology including principles of marine science, marine ecosystems and organisms. Course taught at NMU. • Prereq: BI 111, BI 112, Recommended BI 210 or equiv. Intended for science majors. Course will meet 5 days a week for 3hrs/day for three weeks. • BI 495B Marine Biology Field Studies 3cr: 6/12-6/25/06 • This course will include hands-on experiences in marine research at the Isles of Shoals in the Gulf of Maine. Students will spend two weeks on Appledore Island at the Shoals Marine Lab, take part in field laboratories and conduct their own research project while exploring the biology of the islands. • Prereq: BI495A (above) or other introductory marine biology course. • NOTE: There is an additional fee for this course that includes all on-island costs including room and board, lab equipment/space, local expert lectures, tours and boat time (~$1600; does not include transport to ME).
