Math • Five units • Basic facts – strategies and recall (3 seconds) • Xtra math
ELA • Fluency • Comprehension • Grammar • Vocabulary – Wow Words! • Phonics – Fundations • Spelling • Anthology and Trade Books • Handwriting-Cursive second half of year (Zaner Bloser) • Instruction • Small group • Whole group
Writing Three types of writing • Narrative • Informative • Opinion
Spelling • What’s the rule? Our focus is learning the spelling rule instead of just memorizing words. • Homework We’ll send home words on Monday that show the rule we are learning. Your child may choose several activities to practice the words. • Testing We’ll test on Friday. We may include a word that was not on the list, but has the rule.
Science • Waves (light and sound) • Weather • A Sticky Situation All units use the engineering design process.

Classroom Community • PBIS: (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies) • S: Safety • T: Taking responsibility • A: Active Learning • R: Respect • Starbucks will be given to students for following these standards. • 1st warning: verbal reminder • 2nd warning: Star reminder sent home • 3rd: Referral sent home • We use a green, yellow, red system to help children monitor their own behavior.
SOS (Agenda Book) • Homework copied each day • X in box if no homework for that subject • 15 minutes of reading • Communication between home and school • Please look at and sign each evening
