  4. Anubis was known as the patron of embalming. • Keeper of poison and medicine. • Anubis protects dead from Ammut

  5. Anubis family • He is supposedly the son of Nepthys and Osiris • Some think of him to be the son of Seth but then was adopted by Isis

  6. Attributes • He is the guardian of the Necopolis and was the guide of the dead. • Anubis was a patron of magic so he could see a person’s destiny. • Anubis was the announcer of death.

  7. More Facts • Before Osiris was the • God of the dead, Anubis was God of the dead. • Anubis was mostly worshiped in Cynopolis, which is in Upper Egypt

  8. Weighing of the heart In the hall of Ma’at Anubis appears on behalf of the deceased. He mad sure the scale was in the right position for the weighing. After the weighing had finished, Thoth recorded the results.

  9. Representation of Anubis • Anubis was represented with the head of a jackal • Ox-hide hanging from a pole • embalming equipment, a flail, and flags

  10. Why Jackal? • Jackals were known to lurk around graves • Tombs were made more elaborate to keep out jackals.

  11. Why worship Anubis? • Egyptians worshiped Anubis to make Anubis protect the deceased from jackals. • Egyptians also worshiped Anubis so that their bodies would not decay.
