  4. OEM Licensing • Pros • Cheapest way to get product • Comes pre-installed on hardware • Cons • Least flexible • Cannot be transferred in event of system failure

  5. Retail Licensing • Pros • Less expensive then volume licensing • Can be transferred from machine to machine • Only one copy installed at a time • Can be purchased quickly through retail outlets • Can be purchased one license at a time • Cons • Must keep track of paper license keys

Volume Licensing • Pros • Most flexible licensing available • Single product key to keep track of for auditing • Able to download software from Microsoft • Eligible for free version upgrades (with software assurance) • Cons • Must be purchased from authorized reseller • Must have a valid volume license agreement • Must purchase 5 of some product to start new agreement
