  2. Task To ensure safety standards are maintained within the workshop, the purpose of this exercise is to promote safe workshop practices. You will be required to select from a choice of three scenarios. There is only one correct answer Start your induction

  4. Scenario 1 It is the first class of the semester, and you notice one of your peers already fiddling with the machinery: What do you do? Take the initiative to show the student how it works in a safe manner Tell your peer member to stop Promptly notify the teacher

  5. Your peer choices not to listen to you, as they have used that kind of machinery before Do you: Insist your peer to stop, and inform them that the demonstration has not been done yet Just watch, to see what happens Ignore your peer

  6. Although it is encouraged to inform the teacher of any unsafe practices conducted by another student, if it is non life threatening to that student, or of others, it is also encouraged that students share responsibility in ensuring everyone works in a safe manner. Notify the teacher

  10. Scenario 2 The teacher has dem0nstrated to the class the proper use of the drill press, by outlining the safety precautions that must be carried out, and also the potential hazards that can occur if these precautions are not taken seriously.

  11. Task This task will require you to respond to scenario that has occurred in the workshop. The purpose of this is to ensure that all students are aware of the potential hazards associated with the drill press.

  12. Preparation of the drill press: It’s only necessary when the teacher is around Properly secure the vice No need, drill press is not dangerous

  13. Pick whatever drill bit you can find Choose the appropriate drill bit

  14. Scenario 3 Unsafe working conditions at the drill press station. Your ready to use the drill press, and only need to use it to drill out one hole, but you notice 1) steel waste material stuck to the drill bit of the drill press, 2) chuck left on the shaft of the drill press and 3) no face visor or safety goggles are readily available Do you: Remove chuck Consult teacher for assistance Inform other students that the drill press should not be used Remove the steel piece with bare hands Then use the drill press Use it anyway, it’s only one hole

  16. Put on appropriate P.P.E, Ensure no one is around the hazard zone Start work Check to make sure the teacher is not watching, then Start using the drill press Just use the drill press, It will be a quick job
