Description • Long and skinny • Two plumes run down it’s back (bones that stick out it’s back that have skin between them) • Long thin toes • Light green color (good camo in rainforest) • Freaky big eyes (1)
Taxonomy • Kingdom: Animalia • Phylum: Chordata (2) • Class: Sauropsida • Order: Squemata • Family: Coryphanidae • Genus: Basiliscus • Species: B. Plumifrons
Habitat • Tropical rainforests of Central America • Spends most of it’s time up in the canopy • The daytime temp. in this area is around 100 with very high humidity • There are also large puddles where they eat small water bugs
Distinguishing Characteristics • Bright green color • Very few animals are so green • Has two very distinct plumes running down it’s back • These help to cool them down • Extremely fast • They have webbed hind toes like a duck • Helps them run on the water
Amazing Characteristics • It can run on water • Churn there legs like windmills to run on water (they don’t skim on the surface) • They often run up right • Will eat about anything smaller than itself (3)
