U.S./India Trade Stats • Total Trade (2008): $63.63 billion • U.S. Exports to India (2008): $32.44 billion, a 85 percent increase from the previous year • Imports from India (2008): $39.89 billion, a 65 percent increase from the previous year • Energy Demand: India needs to add 150GW of power over the next five years
Opportunities & Challenges Opportunities: Ranks 4th in the E&Y RE attractiveness Index / GOI mandates for EE solutions by 2012 / GOI to promote adoption of green technologies / The State ERCs to source up to 10% of their power from RE generation / Keen interest from India’s top industrial houses, eg. Tata, Reliance, Bharti Enterprises Market Barriers: Competition from local suppliers / Lack of monitoring legal and financial disclosure / Long permitting processes / Delays with integrating and implementing RE/EE policies / Emerging LCR issues / Corruption & lack of transparency
