Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure The system is charged by the weight method. Step 1 Determine if the system factory charge is adequate for the line length of the system. The systems come with a factory charge that is good for up to 164 feet of total line length. For every additional foot of line length above 164 ft, add .24 ounces of charge. Calculate the charge by adding up the length of each refrigerant line run to each indoor unit. Example: If the line length is greater than 164 feet, add .24 ounces of charge per foot over 164 ft. Example: 80 ft. + 50 ft. + 30 ft. + 40 ft. = 200 ft. Total line length 200 ft - 164 ft = 36 ft. Additional line length 36 ft. x .24 oz = 8.64 ounces of additional charge required Write down any additional charge amount calculated for weigh-in. Note: The lines must be completely evacuated before adding charge or opening the service valves.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 2 To add additional charge to the system, remove the suction line charging port cap and attach the charging hose adapter. (Adapter part # AD-87) A special 1/2”-20F - 1/4”M adapter is required to fit the refrigerant hose to the charging port of the outdoor unit.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 3 Attach the low side hose of the manifold gauge to the adapter.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 4 Verify that the low side valve of the manifold gauge is closed and check the manifold hose connections. Connect the charging hose to the refrigerant tank.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 5 Open the tank valve, turn the scale ON, and zero the meter scale.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 6 Open the low side valve of the manifold gauge to begin adding refrigerant.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 7 When the proper amount of refrigerant has been added (by weight), close the low side valve of the manifold gauge.
Charging Multi-Split Charging Procedure Step 8 Close the tank valve, remove the hose and adapter, and replace the charging port cap. Note: If this is a new installation, Be sure to open the liquid and vapor service valves before starting the unit (see installation section).
