Reminders!!!! SOLDIERS GOVERNMENT LIFE INSURANCE (SGLI) SGLI coverage automatically increased to $400,000 as of 01 Sep 05 even if SGLI was previously declined or you elected lesser coverage. If you want SGLI less than $400,000 notify RSB and we will work to resolve your issue. Bank Accounts DO NOT close bank accounts until you have switched everything over into a new one, INCLUDING your Direct Deposit. If you close your account before we can notify Military Pay, you WILL NOT be paid for drill. You check will bounce back from the bank and it can take months to iron out the problem and get your check. AIT Graduates You must contact Co D RSB within 72 hours of your AIT graduation ceremony. Contacting us is essential so we can process your bonus, travel pay, and all other administrative requirements. Basic Training and AIT Graduates The Recruit Sustainment Battalion is the unit you are assigned to until you complete all required training, are MOS qualified, and have been released from this unit. You are REQUIRED to attend all drills with RSB. Pay issues? Cant ship? If 15 business days have passed since drill and you have not been paid, or you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, please call us before drill weekend so the issue can be dealt with. AWOL/PRESENT FOR DUTY/EXCUSED ABSENCE All unexcused absences will be counted as AWOL (absent without leave). You will not be paid for these drills. NOTE:If you receive 9 AWOL MUTAS (RSB drill weekend=4 MUTA’s), then you are no longer eligible for education benefits and bonuses. Remember, the key here is communication. You won’t be marked AWOL if you have an excused absence. Uniform for the weekend If you have not completed Basic Training you will be in civilian clothes all weekend. If you have completed Basic Training or AIT you will be in BDUs and BDU caps. If you have completed AIT bring your issued beret for Sundays formation. ATTENTION Transportation Routes It is your responsibility to get to the pick up location (armory) and to have transportation home from the drop off location (armory). Be advised that sometimes the buses run behind schedule due to a variety of reasons. If your bus is later than the time posted, please be patient. If it is more than a ½ hour late, please call SFC Sniderman to see when it should arrive. If you miss the bus, it is your responsibility to inform SFC Sniderman and then acquire transportation to Selfridge. This registration process should be completed prior to attending drill. • Go to www.dmdc.osd.mil • Select DoD community from the program menu. • Select General DOD info • Scroll to DMDC Guard and Reserve Employer Web Site. • Select “Agree” and “Continue”. • Enter Login Information Click Login. • Complete all required fields to the best of your ability. Follow the on screen instructions.

  2. _ Hair Regulations _MALE SOLDIERSAll male soldiers should attend drill with a fresh military haircut. Hair should not extend below eyebrows or extend below the edge of the collar. Sideburns should be trimmed to the inner ear opening. Mustaches are permitted, if worn, males will keep them neatly trimmed, tapered and tidy. They will not present a chopped off or bushy appearance, and no portion of mustache will cover the upper lip or extend sideways beyond a vertical line drawn upward from the corners of the mouth. Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized. FEMALE SOLDIERSHair should not extend below the eyebrows or the bottom edge of the collar.No free-hanging hair should be visible. Pony-tails or braids should be secured to the head so they do not dangle.Hair-holding devices should be either clear or as close to the individual’s hair color as possible.Authorized devices include: small, plain scrunchies, barrettes, combs, pins, clips, rubber bands and hair bands. packing Check ListPlease review the list as you are preparing for drill this next month. Some of the most forgotten items are: towels, razors, soap. Personal hygiene and grooming standards are a MUST! Weather permitting we have formations outside. NOTE: These are minimum required items for RSB. If you have any questions concerning what to bring to drill, please contact SFC Sniderman.What to bring: military issue clothing (if you have been issued these)__ brown t-shirt (3 ea.)__ BDUs (2 sets pants/blouse)__ black wool socks (3 pr.)__ APFT uniform (shorts/ t-shirt)__ BDU cap__ black boots__ belt w/black buckle__ beret (AIT grads only)__ field jacket __ gloves civilian clothing (if you have not been issued military clothing)__ long pants ( 2 durable, older pair)__ undergarments__ shower shoes__ white socks (3 pr.)__ t-shirt (2-3 ea.)__ running shoes (no basketball, football or soccer shoes) __ pajamas__ civilian clothes (1 set)__ shorts/ t-shirt (2 pair) __ sweat pants/ sweat shirt __ coat / jacket personal hygiene items including__ razor/shaving cream__ deodorant__ comb/brush__ toothbrush/toothpaste__ washcloth (2 ea.)__ towel (2 ea.)__ hair necessities (females)__  soap/shampoo miscellaneous__ pens, pencils, notebook with paper __ bug repellant __ coat hangers __ chapstick__ sunscreen __ black shoe polish__ lock (combination) Bringing a Friend to DrillYou are highly encouraged to bring a friend to Co D’s drill weekend, however, there are two rules to follow to do so:1) your friend must be 16 years of age or older.2) you MUST call SFC Sniderman SEVEN days prior to drill weekend and let him know the friend’s complete name so it can be provided to the front gate guards for identification purposes.If you bring a friend without notifying SFC Sniderman SEVEN days prior to drill, that visitor will NOT be allowed on post and will be sent home immediately.The same applies to the POV drivers. Every soldier needs to register with this site. Website contains e-mail accounts, individual soldier information, links to MY PAY and other military websites. http://www.dod.mil/dfas/– You must first register with AKO before you register on MyPay. (AKO Help Desk Number 1-877-256-8737)

  3. PROFILESIf you are unable to participate in physical training during drill weekends, you are REQUIRED to provide us with a profile. A profile is an excuse note from your doctor stating the physical activity you may or may not engage in on drill weekends. This note must be faxed to our office prior to the drill weekend. Physical TrainingPhase 1 recruits must pass the initial PT assessment to ship to BCT. (see below for standards)-To graduate BCT Soldiers must meet 50/50/50.-To ship to AIT, phase 2 Soldiers must pass 60/60/60 APFT minimums because upon arriving at AIT you will be given a diagnostic in which you must meet full APFT standards or you can be sent home. If you cannot pass with 60 points in each event, you will not be shipped to AIT. Ensure that you are drinking plenty of water before, during, and after drill weekend to avoid dehydration! Contraband These items are not allowed in your possession or on your person while attending RSB. Your bags will be inspected for contraband upon your arrival during in-processing and are subject to search at any time. - non-prescription drugs - weapons of any kind (this includes knifes) - drug paraphernalia of any kind - alcohol products of any kind - obscene or pornographic material - all Electronic Devices (to include; all game consoles, game boys, CD players, MP3 players, and Lap top computers). - earrings or body piercings are not authorized while attending drill - large amounts of cash, you will have no need to spend money while here at RSB. Getting on to post In order to gain access to Selfridge Airbase, ALL recruits, cadre, staff, and visitors MUST have the following documentation with them: -Valid Military ID card - Drivers license - Vehicle registration - Proof of insurance Referrals Keep referring those possible recruits to us during drill weekend! The more you refer the better your odds are that someone will join using your name as a referral. You can then become promoted right away without waiting for your time in service to come up! Suggest they try us out for one month and bring them to drill. (Refer to the article regarding Bringing a Friend to Drill). The 1-1-1 physical fitness assessment consists of 1 minute of pushups, 1 minute of sit ups, and a 1-mile run. APFT 1-1-1 Standards Keep in mind, these are the minimums! DID YOU KNOW? The Marquis de Lafayette, commander of a Virginia brigade during America’s War of Independence, coined the phrase “Garde Nationale” for his French Revolutionary Army during the French Revolution in the 1790’s. He popularized the term in the United States during a return visit in 1824 by applying it to all organized militia units in America. The term immediately began to appear in newspapers and magazines as a popular slang for the militia.
