Heat Exchanger Learning Apparatus Senior Design Project MECT 4276 Team Members: Robert Maduro (Team Leader) Adolfo Leyva Ricardo Gonzalez Luis Avila 10/16/2013 Industry Advisor:Wade Armer Justin Shepherd Luis Ceballos Instructor:Medhad El Nahas
Outline • Objective • Goals • HELA Design • Shop Visit • Tube Layout Details • Current Assignments • Completion Status • Acknowledgements
Objective • To design and manufacture a heat exchanger learning apparatus to help students understand how a heat exchanger works and the various parameters that affect its performance
Goals • Incorporate a heat exchanger laboratory experiment in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Laboratory Curriculum • Include three(3) interchangeable bundles to familiarize students with the internal components of a heat exchanger • Incorporate LabView software to collect and display data

Heat Exchanger Ready for weld out of shell • Tack weld of shell
Fluids Lab Electric Utilities • 240V 3Phase 30 Amp outlet • 120V Single phase 20 Amp outlets • 3 phase outlet will be used for heating elements and pumps • 3 phase electric power is efficient & allows 3 phase devices to draw less current than an equivalent single phase device
This Week Assignments • Finalize User Operation Manual – Adolfo Leyva • Coordinate next shop visit – Robert Maduro • Procurement of electrical & miscellaneous components – Ohmstede
