  3. About the Water Scorpions • Water Scorpions spend most of their life near the shoreline. • They swim by swishing the front legs and kicking the others. • They are found all over the world. • They belong to the Hemiptera (true bugs) group. • They have no poison in their tails.

  5. What are some characteristics of the Water Scorpion • These creatures are a dark brown or the are more of a black. • Water Scorpions are about one to two inches long. • They have two pairs of wings and six legs. • Water Scorpions would prefer to walk in the mud than flying.

  6. Water Scorpion Habitat They live among streams, ponds, and rivers. They live on the stem of aquatic weeds. They are sometimes found under rocks, too. If they need oxygen they come up to the surface and breathe in air.

  11. About the Deer Fly • Deer Flies belong to the fly family, Tabanidae. • These flies are known to bite and suck blood from humans and animals. • They can be pests to cattle, horse, and humans.

  13. What are some characteristics of the Deer Fly • Deer Flies have big heads and very large eyes. • They have patterned gold or green eyes. • Deer Flies are about the size of a simple house fly.

  14. Deer Fly Habitat • They are distributed worldwide but are not found in Hawaii, Greenland, or Iceland. They like places that are permanently wet. They are found just about everywhere,

  15. Deer Fly Food • Blood • Nectar from flowers Deer Flies main meal is blood. This is their meal because the females need to have their eggs. The more blood they drink the more babies they will have.
