Our Vision is of a nation that is free of barriers, where blind and visually impaired people are not discriminated against; enjoy the same rights and responsibilities, share equal opportunities and a quality of life that is available to their sighted peers.” Our mission is to provide education, training and employment opportunities within a caring environment thus empowering blind and visually impaired people to fully participate in society, whilst helping to promote the prevention of blindness.

Deaf Blind & Multi Handicap Centre • Objectives • Advocate for early intervention and provide a range of education and training to enable deaf blind & multi handicap children to achieve their optimal potential • Ensure rights of the children are recognized and incorporated into our work • Areas of Training • Daily living skills • Motor skills • Orientation and mobility • Communication skills • Social interaction • Target Group • Blind Children or youth with multiple disabilities from 6 – 18 years old

On-site Support • Objectives • To provide timely support to past trainees • To create awareness • Areas of Services • Early intervention programme • Low vision centre • Area of coverage – Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang & Perak • Target Group • Blind children in need of our services • Children with low vision or partial blindness

  6. Vocational Training & Job Placement • Objectives • To enable visually impaired persons to acquire sufficient skills to find employment and to enhance their day to day life. • To disseminate career information, provide career counselling, job search training and support. • Areas of Training • Orientation and mobility • Independent living skills • Job skills • Braille reading and typing • Social and communication skills • Massage, basketry skills and pastry • Kitchen organization and cleanliness (pastry) • Simple book-keeping and marketing methods • Target Group • Blind and visually impaired persons age 18 to 30 years old

Library – Information Access • Objectives • To create access for the blind and visually impaired persons to information and resources by providing books, magazines, news and other reading material in accessible media. • Areas of Services • Loan of Braille books • Loan of audio books • Newscast • Braille transcription • Braille calendars • Quarterly Newsletter • Braille repair and maintenance • Braille reading competition • Structure • Library, Audio Production and Braille production

Training on Information Technology • Objectives • To explore and introduce IT to the blind and visually impaired persons, as well as enhances personal development and motivation • To increase skill levels of essential IT and computer use, and to improve job prospects and mobility • Areas of Training • Jaws (Screen reader) • ICDL certified programmes - Foundation - Core - Advance - Specialised • Communication - MSN Messenger, Skype • Internet Explorer, Email • HTML Development and Web accessibility • Target Group • Lower range school graduates • Higher range working blind • School Holiday program for youths

Senior Citizens Care • Objectives • To provide care and support to visually impaired persons who are 55 years old and above with no family to care for them • Areas of Care • Food and lodging • Medical and health needs • Recreational facilities • Target Group • Visually impaired persons above the age of 55 years and unable to support themselves

  10. Fund Raising Projects – Seeking Sponsorships How You Can Help… • Credit Card insertion project – Recurrent Income • Replacing old computers for IT Training (immediate) – RM250K • Gym RM180K – for resident, disabled people especially the Paralympics • participants
