Important Information: • 3 labs held on: • June 24th July 22nd Aug. 5th • Cline Falls National Guard TBA • Camping trip requirements: • August 14th to 16th,18th to 20th, 23rd to 25th, • Final Assessment must be past prior to camping trip. • List of items that you will take. • Weight limit 20lbs (not counting sleeping bag &backpack) • Pocket Knifes • Locking blade, blade no longer than width of hand. • Knifes must be checked in while on school property, NO EXCEPTIONS!

  3. Class Survey • How many of you have been camping? Out those how many of been camping with minimum items? (i.e. RV, Camper trailer, toilets) • How may of you have backpacks that design for camping? Now just a backpack?

  4. S.U.R.V.IV.A.L. • S-size up the the situation. • U-use all your senses, undue haste makes waste. • R-Remember where you are. • V-vanquish fear and panic. • I-improvise. • V-value living. • A-act like the natives. • L-live by your wits, learn basic skills.

  5. What you need?

  6. Water • Person can survive up to 2 days with out water. • Sources of water: • Streams • Lakes • Rain • Snow • Ice • Urine

  7. Signs of Dehydration • Dark urine with a very strong odor. • Low urine output. • Dark, sunken eyes. • Fatigue. • Emotional instability. • Loss of skin elasticity. • Delayed capillary refill in fingernail beds. • Trench line down center of tongue. • Thirst. Last on the list because you are already 2 percent dehydrated by the time you crave fluids.

  8. Food • A person on average can survive without food from couple days to a week. • Source of food • Animals • Fish • Insects • Plants

  12. Signs of Starvation • Irritability • Low moral • Lethargy • Physical Weakness • Confusion and disorientation • Poor judgment • Weakened immune system • Inability to maintain body temperature which can lead to hypothermia, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke.

  13. 10 things you need • A warm, water-repellent coat • Drinking water • Extra food • Knife • Matches • Waterproof container • Fire Starter • First aid kit • Flash light • Map (Topographic) • Compass
