General Registration Timeline • High school counselors have met with current 8th grade students. • You have received a letter with recommendations made by current teachers. • February- On-line registration in middle school with counselors. Note: Courses with * need parent permission and meeting with a counselor to change course recommendation. • Early March - Course Selections will be sent home. • March 23rd - Last opportunity to make changes before summer. • Early August - Schedules mailed home with a 10 day window to make schedule changes. • Schedule changes are limited once school begins.
Short Term: What you need to know to schedule classes for next year. Long Term: What you need to know & think about to plan for the next four years of high school and for life after high school. Two Points of View
Required Courses In 9th Grade • English • Social Studies • Science • Math • PE and Health • Elective (World Language) • Elective or Study Hall • Lunch (recommended)
Minimum Graduation Requirements • 4 Credits Each of English and Social Studies • 3 Credits Each of Science and Math • Physical Education Each Year In High School • Health In 9th and 11th Grade • In-Class Driver’s Education • Graduation Project • Community Service (20 Hours) • Electives • Total Of 22.50 Credits
Graduation Requirements • 22.5 Credits Minimum to Graduate From High School • Colleges Have Different Requirements • World Language • Math/Science • Requirements For NCAA
Decisions Decisions DecisionsYou should take into consideration: • Teacher Recommendations • The Course Selection Guide • What You Know About Your Student • Student Interests and Strengths • Consider A Long Range Plan • REMEMBER TO THINK ABOUT the WHOLE PICTURE – When deciding about what courses to take, balance work load with other commitments – after school activities, family time, social time, etc.
Correspondence Courses • This contract must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian and the student before any required class may be dropped from your schedule. • The course must be completed within the year it is required. • See your counselor if you want further information.
Remember • Follow the Teacher Recommendations. • Talk with a Counselor if you have more questions. • Your student is building their high school transcript which will be used for college, job, military and scholarship opportunities. • Encourage your student to get involved In Clubs, Sports and Activities.
