  2. Course Selection and Registration for Class of 2019 February 2015 Presenters: Susan Marshall Alice Ball Tanya Anderson Carissa Bailey

General Registration Timeline • February- receive directions for course registration/course selection guide. • Your course requests are due by March 6th at Registrar’s Office. • August – receive your schedules online and window of opportunity to make adjustments. Schedule changes are limited once school starts. *FRESHMEN ORIENTATION IN AUGUST *

  4. Two Points of View • Short Term:What you need to know to schedule classes for next year. • Long Term: What you need to know & think about to plan for the next four years of high school and for life after high school.

  5. Minimum Graduation Requirements • 4 credits each of English and Social Studies • 3 credits each of Science and Math • Physical Education each year in high school • Health in 9th/10th and 11th/12th Grade (2 courses) • In-class Driver’s Education • Graduation Project • Community Service (20 Hours) • Electives (5.5 credits) • Total of 22.50credits

  6. Required Courses In 9th Grade • English • Social Studies • Science • Math • PE and Health • Elective (World Language if college bound) • Electives or a Study Hall • Lunch

  7. English and Social Studies • ENGLISH OPTIONS: • Advanced English 9 • English 9 • SOCIAL STUDIES OPTIONS: • Advanced World History I • World History I

  8. Typical 9th grade Math Options: • Algebra 1 • C.P. Algebra 1 • Geometry • C.P. Geometry • Advanced Geometry • Algebra 2 • C.P. Algebra 2 • Advanced Algebra 2

  9. Science Options: • Advanced Earth Systems Science I • Earth Systems Science I • Earth Systems Science • Adv. Biology 1 – must meet the prerequisites for Math • Adv. ESS1 and Adv. Bio 1

  10. Physical Education and Health PE OPTIONS: • PE 9 (.50 Credit) Health OPTIONS: • Health 1 (.50 Credit)

  11. World Languages OPTIONS: - Spanish - French - German - Arabic - Latin - Mandarin Chinese (through LE contract)

  12. OTHER ELECTIVES • Art • Family and Consumer Science • Music • Technology Education • CTC • LE (Learning Enrichment)

  13. HOW TO REQUEST COURSES • Fill out the Course Registration Form – handout • Choose core courses (including World Language) • Choose electives • You must have at least 6.0 credits on your schedule, we recommend at least 7.0 credits. • Due March 6th at Registrar’s Office

  14. Typical Daily Schedule for 9th Grade 6.0 credits required at a minimum, 7.0 credits recommended.

  15. Graduation Requirement Specific Topics • 22.5 Credits are required to graduate from High School, however, there are some special considerations. 1. Colleges Have Different Requirements • World Language – typically 2 yrs. required, but 3 or more recommended for 4 yr. colleges. • Math ? • Science ? • Fine Arts ? 2.   16. How to Read the Guide Name of Course Example: F 262 – FALL Semester class S 262 - SPRING Semester Class Y 206 - YEAR Long Class .50 - Credit or 1.0 Credit 5 - days per week * Prerequisites are not negotiable

  19. Remember • Talk over your course selection with your parents/guardians. • Remember, you are building your high school transcript which will be used for college, job, military and scholarship opportunities. Grades count! • Get Involved In clubs, sports and activities.
