Executive Summary Aspire Schools: Vincent Shalvey Academy, River Oaks Charter School, and Benjamin Holt College Preparatory Academy had a range of API scores from 886 – 927 in 2010. University Public School was renamed Aspire Vincent Shalvey Academy in honor of Don Shalvey’s father, Vincent, a parent who sacrificed so his child could go to college. Schools continue to focus on building increasing rigor through attention to academic discourse, rigorous lesson planning, and higher order questioning. Parent and teacher satisfaction remain very high. Aspire continues to value the partnership with Lodi Unified School District!
Family Satisfaction • Annual Survey Results: “What grade would you give your school?” Over 80% of families answered “A” or “B” to the survey question Family satisfaction continues to be high compared to the national average of 70%
Factors for Success: Common Mission Teammate response for agreement with the statement, “My teammates are focused on high academic achievement and college for all students.” % agree or strongly agree
Vincent Shalvey Academy Successes: Surpassed 900 API for second year! Renamed school after father of co-founder Don Shalvey (formerly University Public School (UPS)) Development of new Afterschool program Focus for 2010-2011: Rigorous lesson planning Rigorous academic discourse – oral and written
Ben Holt College Preparatory Academy Successes • Increased API by 26 points • 100% of Class of 2010 accepted to a 4 year college. • 901 college credits earned through Early College High School program by 34 graduates Focus for 2010-2011 • College readiness • Offering additional afterschool support for students
River Oaks Charter School Successes: • Increased API by 37 points • Recipient of 2010 Title 1 Academic Achievement Award, 2010 CA Distinguished School Award, 2009 Honor Roll Award, CA Business Excellence Focus for 2010-2011 • Writing proficiency for all students • Alignment of afterschool intervention program with student needs
