Don’t make me think, an impression Qing Liu
The key factor Keep it simple
1: Don’t Make Me Think • Bare Essentials to Navigate a page • Clear annotation of page • Stay Consistent • Users should just “get it” • What Customer Expects to find is what customers should get
2. How We Really Use the Web • Users Skim webpages, never read whole thing • They don’t think about what they choose they guess • Everyone uses the internet differently, better to keep a simple website that doesn’t force anyone to work in a certain way
3. Billboard Design 101 • Clear Visual Hierarchy on the Webpage • Use pre-established web conventions. • Organize the page according to common webpages today and the user won’t have to think • Create clear page divisions • Make clear, clickable links • Less noise on a page the better.
4. Animal Vegetable or Mineral? • So Easy an Animal could do it. • Clicking should be mindless! • The user shouldn’t need to be intelligent to navigate the page • Not the number of clicks that matters but the ease of clicking that does.
5. Omit Needless Words • Users never read the whole webpage therefore only key words are necessary • The more straightforward the easier to read. • One sentence should have no unnecessary words, • as well as a whole paragraph, • and a whole webpage.
