Christmas In Vietnam In Ho Chi Minh city (which is the largest city in Vietnam and used to be called Saigon) people like to go to the city centre, where there is a Catholic Cathedral. The streets are loaded with people on Christmas Eve and city centre cars are not allowed for the night. People celebrate by throwing confetti, taking pictures, and enjoying the bright light that the big hotels put up. Some restaurants are even open for people to enjoy a snack on such a wonderful night. Many Catholic churches have a big nativity crib scene or 'creche' with nearly life size statues of Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds and animals. Chuć Mưǹg Giańg Sinh is Merry Christmas in Vietnamese. Ông già Noel‘ is (Christmas old man).
