  2. Types of Muscle • There are 3 types of muscle • Skeletal • Smooth • Cardiac

  3. Skeletal Muscles • These are muscles attached to the skeleton. • Striped appearance called STRIATIONS

  4. Smooth Muscle • This muscle is located in the blood vessels and digestive tract • They do not have any striations

  5. Cardiac Muscle • Muscle found only in the heart • It has a branched appearance

  6. Two Categories of Muscles • Voluntary (Skeletal) • You can control its use • Quick to tire • Involuntary (Smooth and Cardiac) • You can not control use • Slow to tire

  7. Muscle Structure • Muscles are made of two protein fibers • Actin and Myosin • Muscles are attached to bone with a tough connective tissue called a TENDON

  25. Muscle Functions • Protection • Muscles help to protect any area they cover • Temperature regulation • Shivering produces body heat • Movement • With the skeletal system, muscles help you move • Smooth muscle helps move blood through blood vessels and food through digestive tract
