Defining “The Gospel of Christ” • In the beginning, God created all that is and called it good • God gave mankind a powerful, amazing gift – FREE CHOICE • Men and women chose disobedience and SIN entered the world (The Fall) • WE cannot shake or remove sin alone
Defining “The Gospel of Christ” 5) God made the way of salvation through Jesus’ death and resurrection 6) We are called to repent (turn away from) sin, enter into a personal, saving relationship with Jesus Christ as both our Savior and Lord 7) This happens through our transferring our trust to Christ alone (through prayer)
What are Spiritual Tools? MANY are available to us as Christians: • Our personal and corporate prayer life • The Holy Bible as the Ground of ALL Truth • God’s Promises to US from the Scriptures • The initiation and pursuit of relationships centered in ministry with Jesus Christ • Christian Community (Small Groups)
The heart of our Testimony Theological Passage Points in Life • Preeminent Grace (God pursuing us…) • Justifying Grace (God saving us in Christ) • Sanctifying Grace (Growing spiritually) • Eternal Grace (Eternal Security in Christ)
The heart of our Testimony PRACTICAL Passage Points in Life • Preeminent Grace (Before I was in Christ) • Justifying Grace (MY coming to Christ) • Sanctifying Grace (MY Daily Growth) • Eternal Grace (MY certainty of eternal life) • My Anticipation of The Second Coming
Considering WHO Is Present • MY Testimony should RELATE to those or the one I am sharing it with • I select “segments” of my own faith journey in order to have maximum impact on my listener or listeners • I choose the theological level of language I will use to communicate – taking into account my listener or listeners
Keeping The Outcomes in Mind KEY Outcomes of Sharing My Testimony: • To encourage others to choose Christ • To share personal, spiritual transformation • To share experiences of the Divine Presence of The Holy Spirit at work in me • To raise in a NON-confrontational way, the possibility of a listener choosing Christ
My Personal Testimony Will: Encourage Inspire Motivate & Offer New Choices
Some DON’TS for my Testimony • Don’t ever apologize for your testimony not being as seemingly dramatic as someone else’s testimony • Don’t spend too much time on “BEFORE” coming to Christ and minimize the change and resulting incredible differences • Don’t avoid sharing authentic struggles, ups and downs, and “the REAL you”
My Personal Testimony is MY story of MY walk with Jesus
The POWER of Testimony • Helps others know that I have been through struggles and valleys • Allows others to see me as I really am, in relation to my own faith journey • God uses our own unique stories to reach out and move the hearts of others present • After hearing my testimony, others truly understand our relationship more fully
Resources for MY Story • Closest moments with the Lord Jesus… • Divine Intervention (s) on my behalf • Miracles that I have personally witnessed • Powerful examples of Divine Healing • Instances of Divine Reconciliation • The most profound times of forgiveness • God’s love in my life as discipline • BEFORE Jesus vs. AFTER Jesus
Creating A Time Line • Where will my testimony BEGIN this time? • What are the major “passage points” to include in the timeline I have chosen? • Remember, no one testimony includes the entire “library” of all our life experiences! • What TIME boundaries are present now? • What is the spiritual maturity level of my audience and therefore, what approach?
The Actual Presentation • Totally spontaneous; an outline or a full manuscript – advantages & problems • The role of the Holy Spirit in the presentation of my testimony • Sitting or standing; help with the time line? • Reviewing my “tuned and prayed over” testimony with a trusted friend who is truly objective with me
