Performed activities • Meeting 19-21 November 2008: • Development of pilot project concerning future OPMET data representation • http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/WDM/ET-ODR-1/Documents.html • First tests in July 2009: • XML-encoded METAR sent from Brussels (Belgium) to Hong Kong (China) via London (UK), Singapore and Bangkok (Thailand) on 23-July-2009 • ICAO AFTN is suitable for dissemination of XML-type messages • Full IA-5 character set necessary • Only small size messages (<1800 characters) tested Report ET-ODR
Performed activities • Meeting 16 October 2009: • Discussion on results first tests • Impending decision by ICAO to stop migration from TAC to BUFR • Discussion on future work of ET-ODR in relation to CBS IPET on MDI • ET-ODR becomes dormant until new testing is envisaged by IPET on MDI • CAeM representative will actively participate in IPET on MDI • http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/WDM/ET-ODR-2/Documents.html Report ET-ODR
Future activities of CBS IPET on MDI • Assess current data-standards landscape, a.o.: • ISO 191xx series • OGC O&M model • WXCM-WXXM (Eurocontrol + US FAA) • Develop candidate common data-model to support all MET domains • First focus on aviation MET & WMO resolution 40 « essential » data • In line with WMO WIS concept • Develop candidate data-encodings, including XML-type encoding • Demonstrations via test-beds • Develop governance / maintenance arrangements for data-model and -encoding Report ET-ODR

XML) • Governance/maintenance arrangements & publication mechanisms for WMO IPET-DRC • Adjust WMO IPET-DRC mandate to maintain the data model & encodings (incl. XML) alongside TAC & TDCF • ICAO • Annex 3 amended to permit exchange XML-encoded OPMET products* under bi-lateral agreement between member states • [ *based on current data- product specifications ] • WMO Executive Council • Endorse changes recommended by WMO CBS • WMO IPET-MDI • 2009-10 work programme • WMO IPET-MDI • 1.0 data exchange standards passed to WMO IPET-DRC for maintenance • SESAR • Data exchange standards development complete • ICAO Divisional Meeting • Endorse transition to from product- to data-centric information exchange • Prepare roadmap to phase out TAC WMO IPET-MDI: Inter-Programme Expert Team on Metadata & Data Interoperability WMO IPET-DRC: Inter-Programme Expert Team on Data Representations & Codes Report ET-ODR
