Office of Instructional Technology
E-mail Alias Addresses • Alias address: forwards incoming mail to designated real mail accounts • Alias serves as a permanent e-mail address for your organization • Recipient address(es) can be updated as personnel changes occur • Example: boe.wood@access.k12.wv.us Office of Instructional Technology
Sex Offender Update Notices • WV State Police Sex Offender Updates • Previously sent via FAX • Transitioning to e-mail delivery • When WV State Police requests an address, an alias address provides the necessary permanent address Office of Instructional Technology
Rapid Notification Systems • Some counties are using rapid notification systems. The WVDE is aware these are in use: • School Messenger • Parent Link • School Reach • The WVDE does not endorse any vendors of this type of service. • Notify bacole@access.k12.wv.us and rpullin@access.k12.wv.us if your county is using any other rapid notification service. Office of Instructional Technology
IMAP Mail Client • Access.k12.wv.us server supports IMAP • Practical option for those frequently using both webmail and client software (such as MS Outlook) • Synchronizes Inbox, Sent and custom folders between webmail and client software • Old & important messages easily transferred from web folders to client folders for permanent storage • More complex to manage than POP since it involves two sets of message folders in the mail client • Web folders represent mail on the server • Client folders contain mail on your computer Office of Instructional Technology
SSL Certificates for k12.wv.us • Does your web site need encrypted login and data transfer capability? • Is the URL part of the k12.wv.us domain? • The WVDE can provide an SSL certificate at no cost. • Contact Vicki Allen or Bruce Cole in the Office of Instructional Technology.
