  3. The Soil of the Second Temple • Sadducees, Pharisees, Scribes, Essenes, Zealots • Everyday people – the majority of the world was poor. • Jesus identified with the poor and outcast. • For Jesus – Rome is not the enemy, SIN is the enemy.

  4. Birth and baptism • Luke 1:52-55 • Jesus’ birth signaled that change was coming. • Luke 3:21-22 • The identity of Jesus is central to His mission. We need to know who Jesus is.

Temptation and call • Luke 4:1-13 • His identity was being tested. • His humanity was being tested. • His method for ministry was being tested. • Luke 5:8-11 • People rejected Jesus because He didn’t fit their agenda. • Those who followed – were changed and changed the world.
