Present Tense3rd Conjugation Verbs • 3rd conjugation verbs have a little “trick” to make their present tense. • pono, ponere, posui, positus • Instead of dropping just the –RE to find the stem, go ahead and drop the –ERE instead! ponere – -ere = pon-
3rd Conjugation Present Tense Endings Singular Plural 1st person 2nd person 3rd person -o -imus we… I… -is -itis y’all… you… -unt -it they… he/she/it…
pono, ponere: put, place We’ve replaced the –e- before the –re with other vowels, -i and –u. pon pon o imus is pon itis pon pon pon it unt
pono, ponere: put, place Singular imperative: Drop the –re. Plural imperative: Drop the –re, change -e- to –i-, then add -te. pone! put! ponite! put!
