Rolling Chairs. Two volunteers sit in rolling chairs. Experiment with one person pushing the other and both people pushing each other. What happens? How does the motion change? How is it still the same? Explain the motion by applying Newton’s Laws.

  1. Rolling Chairs • Two volunteers sit in rolling chairs. • Experiment with one person pushing the other and both people pushing each other. • What happens? How does the motion change? How is it still the same? • Explain the motion by applying Newton’s Laws. • Now have one person hold a stack of textbooks. Repeat for this new situation.

  2. Weight and Scales • A volunteer stands on the scale and observes her/his weight. • Then puts your hands under lip of the table and pull upward on the edge of the table. How much do you weigh while doing this? • Next, while standing on scale, push down on tabletop. How much do you weigh while doing this? • Why does this happen? Clearly explain with regards to the forces and Newton’s Laws.

  3. Jump Around! • Jump around! Jump around! Jump up, jump up and get down. Jump! Jump! Jump…! Explain, using Newton’s Laws, how this is possible. How does jumping “work?”
