Purpose of the day • Today is an opportunity to exchange views and discuss what needs to be done to make Lewisham safer. • We hope we leave with: • A better understanding of each others priorities and arrangements in a changing and challenging delivery landscape; • Agreements about what collectively we can achieve and deliver to support our priorities.

The agreed Safer Lewisham Partnership Objectives include: • Reducing crime in Lewisham; • Reducing the level of Anti Social Behaviour in Lewisham; • Improve interventions for those in the criminal justice system; • Improve safety for residents of Lewisham; • Increase reassurance about the criminal justice system through improved victim support, and community engagement. Agreed at Mayor and Cabinet last week!

The picture in Lewisham • Over 31,000 incidents where reported to the police 2007 - 08 • 47% of Lewisham’s residents expressed concern about crime – similar to 2005. • 49% of Lewisham’s residents agreed that the Council is working with local people to tackle issues of crime. Annual Survey 2006

  10. 51% of victims were men and 49% women. • 56% of victims were white, 31% black, 6% Asian, 4% Dark European, 2% Chinese & 1% Arab

  11. There is a gap between perception and delivery • BCS shows that crime has fallen but the perception is that is has risen
