  3. Iris • Messenger of gods • Signified/represented by rainbow • Responsible for changes and alterations of the air (i.e. capable of controlling the weather) • Rainbow creates wonder – Miranda • Air-like qualities – Ariel

  4. Ceres • Goddess of agriculture • Presided over the labors of: • Plowing • Tilling • Planting • Harvesting • Goddess of maternal fertility

Juno (Remember Hera?) • Jupitor’s wife (Zeus) • Goddess of light and childbirth • Focus on maternal side of childbirth • Ceres and Juno • Ceres’ daughter, Proserpina, was capture by Pluto (Hades) and taken to the underworld to be Pluto’s wife. • Ceres asks Juno to help. Juno will help bring her back as long as Proserpina ate nothing while in the underworld. She did eat something. • Juno struck a deal – ½ year Proserpina needed to stay in underworld and ½ she may live on Earth. Explains seasons.
