Using the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition • What are the issues that industry feels could or should be addressed by the RHSC? • What are the modalities that could be used to pursue these issues? • Are there collaborative activities on market development approaches that can begin now – country specific, regional or global? • Are there ways of collaborating to get better demand and market assessment data? Improving dialogue with industry R&D based manufacturers Prequalified generic manufacturers • This forum should not be a “one-off” for the • Coalition – need to continue. • No reason to separate R&D companies • from prequalified/“prequalifiable” generic • manufacturers. Using the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition • Companies want to be considered as real partners, not solely working for monetary gain. • How ensure that appropriate codes of ethics are observed on national basis. • Many countries remain donor dependent – UNFPA, USAID and other key donors are critical in developing appropriate links with MOH and other key opinion leaders in country. Would companies be willing to share market segmentation or sales information? Conversely, can industry be specific about its needs? • Essential that the RH Interchange is expanded to include the private sector. But this is not addressing the private market! Are there “incentives” that the Coalition can use to stimulate industry to become a key partner? • Need to separate institutional procurement from market approaches to be developed by private sector. • Private sector key in reducing donor dependancy and in countries “graduating” from donor funding. This is likely to be the major way of partnering with industry. Difficult for industry to build the second tier alone, unless already have a local base . • How achieve sustainability? Using the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition • Coalition’s role should be to ensure that public sector addresses the poor, and only the poor, to allow the second tier to develop. Can this be addressed by voucher or other schemes? • If industry sees that there is a third tier market, can they be induced to develop a second tier? • What are the problems that must be addressed?
