Heating water using Total Solar Energy Subject of demonstration: Solar system for hotels Process: Producing heat from solar energy Location: Lot Hotel Production: Lot Hotel Equipment: Heliocol solar collector panels (manufactured by Plastic Magen); Chromagen solar panels Installation operative: March 2006 Investment: NIS 500,000 Annual saving: 313,620 kwh
Site Description: The Lot Hotel is a resort hotel in the Dead Sea area, near Ein Bokek. The hotel has 199 rooms, a dining room and restaurants. A spa with a heated salt water pool, sauna, hot tub, hot sulphur baths, treatment rooms for massages and mud wraps, a gym, showers and changing rooms. An outdoor swimming pool (heated in winter) The hotel with all its facilities uses large quantities of hot water currently supplied by solar energy, previously by gas boilers. Quantity of gas used in 2004 – about 120 tons. Aim of project: To save on gas costs by heating up a significant quantity of water by solar energy. • System Description: A system for heating water using solar energy, which comprises the following main components: • Heliocol collectors manufactured by Plastic Magen for pre-heating at low temp. • Chromagen collectors for final heating at high temps. • Water storage in 3 insulated tanks • Transmission system inside the system and to the various consumers • Control system and taps for channeling the hot water for maximum efficiency of the system; operation of gas boiler as necessary only. • The system provides hot water to the various consumer according to the required quantity and temp.
