  1. PREJUDICE • Some of the issues we will consider today are: • Are there types of people prone to prejudice? • Difference between stereotypes discrimination & Prejudice,why are they so prevalent? • What can be done to reduce prejudice?

  2. PREJUDICE CONT……….. • “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the white citizen councillor or the Klu Klux Klan, but the white moderate” • Martin Luther King Jr.

  3. STREREOTYPES what are they…………. • Beliefs about attributes typically possessed by members of a group. • I.e All black people can dance. • All Jews are tight fisted. • Can you think of some others??????

  4. WHAT IS PREJUDICE?? • The ‘affective’(I.e emotional) disposition toward members of a group by virtue of their group membership. • I.e I hate all Chinese people. • A child imitating- ‘Me too’.

  5. DISCRIMINATION………. • Unequal treatment of a member of a group relative to members of another group, because of their group membership. • I.e You have to pay extra to park your car because you are disabled. • Tell sexist' racist jokes. • Violence.

  6. Discrimination cont…… • Whites only signs all but gone, • What contemporary examples can you think of? • What of institutional discrimination? • Take a few minutes to discuss….
