  1. Content in the case: • Instruction - laminated • pH-adjuster • Reagent • Container with manometer • Lid to the container • Measuring tube • Measuring scoop • DM-meter Swine kg P2O5/m3 Cattle kg P2O5/m3 1.3 0.4 2.7 0.9 4.1 1.3 5.6 1.7 7.0 2.2 8.4 2.6 Agros Nova Mk3 Nitrogen meter Phosphorus and DM-meter • The phosphorusmeter (of glass) measures the density of the manure. The phosphorus content is proportional to the density. • The sample is taken from a well mixed slurry. • Stir before the immersion of the meter. • Immerse the meter slowly into the slurry and read the value. • If the slurry is too viscous and the meter don´t freely move, dilute • with equal amount of water and retry. Then double the value on the • scale. • On the meter you can read % DM. In the table you can read the P- • content for swine and cattle. (British or US sorts).

  2. Test with the Nitrogen meter • Start measurement with the removal of the sample from the manure storage or spreader. Use a plastic bucket • With dry manure, several samples should be taken. Take the samples from the wet part of the heap 1. 2. • Remove the measuring tube from inside the container. • Fill it to the top with manure and dump into the • container. 1 X 3. • Add three measuring tubes of water to the container. The quality of the • water is not important. 3 X 4. • Add half a teaspoon with pH-adjuster to the manure. ½ X 5. a. d. b. c. 1 X • Add a scoop of reagent to the measuring tube and reinsert the tube into the container. It is important • that none is spilled, since the reaction should not start until the lid is tight. 6. • Screw on lid. • Mix contents with a side to side movement (avoid filling • the gauge with manure). Discontinue mixing when the • indicator stops moving. This will take 1 – 6 minutes. X 7. • Read the meter. The value on the dial relates to plant available nitrogen. The black • dial is graduated in kg N/m3. The red scale is for American: lb N/1000 US gallons. • Too low values • Add 4 measuring tubes of manure and no water. Then divide the • value of the scale by 4. • Too high values • If the indicator passes the highest value on the scale, discontinue • at once by releasing the pressure. Dilute the manure with equal • amount of water and make a new test. The value on the scale • should then be doubled.. • Possible problem areas: • The lid should be tight. The screw thread may need lubrication. • Don´t measure fresh manure. It should be stabilized a few days in the store.
