PCMDI role in AR4, AR5. When we transition to AR5 (and publish data at multiple sites …). Can we assume that data is available to be ‘scanned’ (metadata extraction)? [OPeNDAP interface? Tertiary storage?] If not: how will metadata be entered into the system

  2. When we transition to AR5 (and publish data at multiple sites …) • Can we assume that data is available to be ‘scanned’ (metadata extraction)? [OPeNDAP interface? Tertiary storage?] • If not: how will metadata be entered into the system • At what level of ‘conformity’? [profiles?] • Is it sufficient to say: ‘the search will only return some of the datasets’ • Restate: are there different levels/standards for the metadata? • There are different aggregation strategies – can we accommodate them, or just pick one? • Data granularity – what if the data is offline • Flexibility to add new categories. E.g., a new model is added to the archive – who picks the relevant identifier(s)? • Regridding software has to go with the data (?) • Provenance is critical
