Ideas that will help your site align SLC implementation with WASC requirements: • Align ESLRs with SLC outcomes • Align Vision statements for each SLC with the overall school-wide vision and ESLRs • SLCs as Home Groups • SLC Leads on Leadership Team, SLC reps. On Focus Groups, and various school committees • Train SLC lead teachers how to lead meetings/discussions • If possible, send lead teachers to WASC trainings, or have the Self – Study coordinator do on-site training
Ideas that will help your site align SLCimplementation with WASC requirements: • Disaggregate student data in various ways – SLCs/Dept./ Grades/Gender/Ethnicity • Follow WASC Manual pg. 40 • Revisit the School Impact Report – discuss practices/procedures • Revisit the issue of “equity” among SLCs, issues of unfair competition and/or “cherry picking” students • Use the SURVEY results as evidence • Title I, Public Works, SLCs • Include your SLC successes in the Progress Report and in Chapter 4 • Review your SLC Plans using the (A-E) WASC Criteria

The Process… • Introduce the WASC process to the Leadership Team • Create a Writing Team • English teachers from various SLCs are ideal • SLC coordinator, self-study co-coordinator (Title I) • EL, Testing (?), Instructional coaches (???) • A PDD to introduce the WASC to the Faculty • Have staff fill out the Focus Group Preference sheet • SLC Leads make sure they are represented in all 5 Focus Groups
The Process… • Assemblies by SLCs for students • Key groups • Leadership Team (include SLC lead teachers and Focus Group Leads, students, and parents) • Focus groups: (five, include students and parents from various SLCs, SLCs are balanced in all groups) • Home groups: SLCs, Core departments, and classified • Data Team • Categorical Committees • Alumni
Self-Study Coordinator • Cooperates with the Visiting Committee Chairsperson • develop mutually acceptable plan of action • set a positive tone for the self-study • Serve on a Visiting Team • Participates in all school committees • SSC, SDM, Data Team, CEAC, ELAC, Alumni • Trains Leadership Team and SLC/Focus/Home group leaders in • roles and responsibilities, including strategies in group dynamics and data analysis (in depth gathering of evidence) • How to analyze student work
What drives the Action Plan? • Critical Academic Needs (chapter 2) • What does the data show? • Where are your weaknesses? • What are you doing about the weaknesses? • What are you doing about special groups? • The Visiting Committee will have dissected the data and will be looking to see if you have • These Critical Academic Needs will drive your Action Plan

Who monitors progress? • What special programs do they have? • Who’s there to explain them? • Do you have plans to disseminate this wonderful program throughout the school? • How do you resolve difference? • Where is your school in 5 years? 10 years? What are you doing today to affect that change?
