Downstairs in the new Youth Connexion lounge, scary movie, candy apple making & more, only $5! 6:00-8:00pm for Ages 10-13 and 8:00-10:00pm for Ages 14-17. There will also be activities upstairs in the main hall for children under 10. Youth Connexion Lounge Open House and Information The Connexion Lounge, in the basement of the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre is having a Open House on Thursday October 13th, from 7pm to 8pm. Come and see what Youth Connexion and the youth of Fitzroy have been working on this past summer and to enjoy some refreshments. Programs: Regular drop-in activities include gaming, movies, music, games, air hockey, foosball, ping pong and more! The Connexion Lounge will also have free Wi-Fi , so youth are more than welcome to bring laptops to do homework on, or other wireless devices. It will cost $2, to come to the Lounge, but you can purchase Youth Connexion Cards and put a desired amount of money onto it to be used at any youth night or teen volleyball in Fitzroy at The Connexion Lounge. Tuesdays: 3:00-4:30pm for ages 14-17 4:30-6:00pm for ages 10-13. Thursdays: 6:00-7:30pm for ages 10-13 7:30- 9:00pm for ages 14-17. Fitzroy Harbour Fundraiser – The Fabulous BelAirs Put On Your Blue Suede Shoes The Fabulous BelAirs are bringing their 5-piece band to Fitzroy Harbour to re-live the days when Rock & Roll music ruled the Airways, and the Chevy BelAir was King of the drags… Be transported back to the past and experience those unforgettable memories and authentic harmonies reminiscent of the 50s & 60s. Based in Brockville, The Fabulous BelAirs, a 50s & 60s Rock & Roll Show, have had an exciting career playing throughout Eastern Ontario and New York State since their inception in the summer of 1986. They are well known for authentic rock-a-billy guitar solos, variety of arrangements, instrumentation and incredibly tight vocal harmonies. Past performances include opening for the Five Man Electrical Band; Jan & Dean; Frankie Valli; the Mama's & Papa's before a crowd estimated at 40,000; and celebrated Canada Day at Ottawa's Parliament Hill for an enthusiast crowd of 130,000 people. “What makes the band work,” say Ken Kubiak, Lead Singer, “we all endeavour to keep the sound original to the artist and each performance dynamic and spontaneousto the audience.” Other band members are Dave Gardiner on Lead Guitar, Paul Gardiner on Rhythm Guitar, Bass and Keyboards; James Murray on Bass and Sax; and of course, Brian Healy, the drive behind the band, on Drums and Percussion. St. Andrew’s Annual Bazaar St. Andrew's UCW will hold their annual bazaar on October 22ndfrom 11am to 2pm in Baldwin Hall, at the Church, 184 Carleton Street. Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 1:00 - Soup, sandwiches, squares, tea/coffee $8 adults, $4 children 10 and under. Something for everyone - crafts, baking, preserves, attic treasures. Norma’s October Poem No, we didn't miss a season But suddenly it's fall we just want to have a reason to stuff our parasol sometimes we welcome autumn when we've suffered too much heat (whew!!) can't get my mind around coloured leaves when campfires were incomplete So our Canadian Thanksgiving is on the 10th this year we hope to see our families, a thought that's most sincere shortened nights will be the theme kids dressed up for trick or treat raking leaves or more preserving time plus finishing promises we didn't keep nonetheless October's here: the hunters grab their gear and head for nature's precious woodlands trailing a white-tailed deer. ...Norma Dixon (The Villa 129) FHCA Scholarship Winner Congratulations to Shannon Roesler who was named winner of the Fitzroy Harbour Community Association post-secondary scholarship for 2011. Shannon has been active as an employee of the FHCA for several years and had an excellent academic record. Best to luck to Shannon in her post-secondary studies this year at Brock University. Fitzroy Harbour Men’s Fastball League concludes The eight-team Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball League concluded the playoffs on September 13 with Ryley Burns' Green Team, which went through the playoff tournament undefeated at 4-0, beating the Ottawa Valley Heat Midget team in the final by a score of 11-4. Spencer Campbell, who also hit a home run to help his cause and Kurt Raycroft combined to throw for the green squad. Jeff Campbell took the loss for the midgets. With the addition of lights on diamond two for this season, the league was able to expand and had a very successful season. Thanks to Brendan Coker for organizing the league this season.
