{ workshop by anne + arun @ one group conference 2006 } actions of success{habit, proactivity + duplication}
About us {introduction} • Joined as ONE Group reps in March 2004 • No previous mlm experience • Training and teaching background • What ONE Group has allowed us to do… • TO DO: intro to the person next to you & identify what strategies you have committed too essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Our workshops {introduction} “ Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare” – Japanese Proverb • Two aspects to success: • HEAD or who you are being • HANDS or what you are doing • Both are inherently linked • Last workshop looked at the first aspect • This workshop looks at the second aspect • Each is stand alone… essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
choosing a pace and approach that you can maintain… sustainable action
Business basics {sustainable action} • This business has three action components: • Connecting contacts: Finding people who are interested through implementing strategies • Following up & sponsoring: Providing information to allow people to make an informed decision and sponsoring those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity • Training and support: helping to empower reps in your team to build their own successful business through duplication essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Sustainabilty tips {sustainable action} “95% of those who remain in this industry for ten years or longer, working steadily at building their groups, reach the highest pay level in their respective companies – so just don’t quit”– Mark & Rene Yarnell in “Your First Year in Network Marketing” • Keep sustainable by: • Enjoying yourself • Working on yourself • Understanding the difference between a business and a job (cash flow quadrant) • Creating and following a business plan… essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Business plan {sustainable action} • Using the enterprise manual • Works through: • Taking responsibility • Goals (your why) • One Group as a vehicle • Your resources • Your plan of action • Your support essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Stages of your business {sustainable action} • Finding your feet (0 to 6 months): • Learning the ropes, asking lots of questions • Action as effort (1 to 12 months): • Every strategy is consciously planned, nothing comes easy or automatically • Action as habit (8 months plus): • You might not be getting big returns but things happen more instinctively after months of repitition • Momentum (12 months plus) • You have built a critical mass, you benefit from today’s effort but also from the work you did four months ago “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit”– Aristotle essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Beyond the “lottery” {sustainable action} • Success comes through the accumulation over time of conscious action • Success is not about “hitting the jackpot” • There is no single rep/ retail store/ fundraising organisation that will make or break your business. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”– Seneca, Roman philosopher essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
what are you trying to bring into being intentional action
Duplication is key {intentional action} • Duplication is the most powerful aspect of this business plan • Only reps duplicate so it makes sense to spend the majority of your resources on this sector of the business. • This is also is the most enjoyable aspect of the business • The potential trap of retail essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Intention and Results {intentional action} • TO DO: memory test… • If you agree that reps are crucial then have this as a starting point behind your strategies • Might be subtle differences in practical terms but tangible difference in outcomes • Have your perfect rep qualities in your mind so you can see it when it when it comes infront of you! essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Proactivity {intentional action} • Most people react to a stimulus • There is a moment between stimulus and response where you can make choices and instead be proactive • Proactivity is more than initiative, it is basing action on your decisions rather than your conditions • Covey covers this and more… essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Circle of influence {intentional action} • Stephen Covey talks about the circle of concern vs circle of influence: • Reactive people tend to blame and brood, focussing on areas that they have no control over (circle of concern) • Their influence tends to be minor • Proactive people focus their energy on their circle of influence and consequently it grows “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
tracking time and getting a reality check accountable action
Reality check {accountable action} • TO DO: biz review document • Business review or reality check document designed to break people out of their fantasies • Tracks the real work and time in the business • About creating integrity with your plan and approach, not about being answerable to anyone else essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Time management {accountable action} • Using priority lists • Ideally priorities will flow from values, vision & goals • Covey employs the four quadrant method: VERY IMPORTANTVERY URGENT VERY IMPORTANTNOT URGENT NOT IMPORTANTVERY URGENT NOT IMPORTANTNOT URGENT essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Time Management too {accountable action} • Aim for specific outcome in a week • Take time to plan away from email etc. • Avoid “creative procratination” • You cant schedule people or building relationships so be flexible here • Covey yet again: “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing” • Specifically most of your time should be spent applying strategies until you have a significant team • Often waves of sponsorship then consolidation which go on repeating… essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Practical tips to get through… challenges to action
You {challenges to action} • You are always your biggest asset and your biggest challenge • Your problems might relate to: • Fear of failure, fear of success • Being uncomfortable about the business model • Etc etc etc • As covered in previous workshop… personal development is not an optional extra! essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Rejection {challenges to action} • The art of being committed not attached • Committed to fast follow up and empowering an outcome • Not attached to any particular decision • Attitude of ABUNDANCE • Focus on your circle of influence… implement strategies and provide professional follow up - the final decision is up to them • Keep perspective through repetition and numbers: “It is the sheer magnitude of the numbers of people that we approach that keeps us from over reacting to those who reject our approaches” – Mark & Rene Yarnell in Your First Year in Network Marketing essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Perfectionism {challenges to action} • Perfectionism can be a significant cause of inaction • Need to promote the culture of “learn while you earn” • No perfect time or conditions so take the plunge and test things out • Often stems from fear of failure “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that’s why I succeed”– Michael Jordon essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
making your business bigger than you duplicatable action
The art of leverage {duplicatable action} • Avoid being an expert, rather know how to access tools and resources: • Three way calls • Company phone conferences • Company promotional material (brochures, cds etc) • Each time you use an existing tool people will think “I could do that” • Experts intimidate and create barriers… much better to empower through leveraging off your team and company resources essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
Our team system {duplicatable action} • Talking to a new inquiry • First call to ask questions • Book a three way call • Only sponsor a new rep on fast start • Once joined as a rep: • Getting Started manual with sponsor • Get on team elists • Download Getting Started training call • Enterprise Manual with sponsor and upline (three way call essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
The highlights… finally…
Bits to remember {finally} • Repeated, sustainable, duplicatable action over time is what will build your business • Be patient and focus on medium to long term results • Take the pressure off, don’t quit your day job too early • Reps are key to exponential growth of your business so focus the bulk of your efforts and intention on them • Practice proactivity and working on your circle of influence • Do whatever it takes to maintain your activity over 5 years plus to ensure real results essence of success {attitude, training + leadership}
