SIS Vision BA was quick to recognise Industry benefits • Streamlined processes • Timely accounting • Reduces Cost • Environment ……….... therefore BA has supported the project from initiation.
SIS and BA BA represented on all process streams over a 3 year period. • Passenger • Cargo • Miscellaneous • UATP BA a pilot carrier for first three streams.
Where to start ………? CHALLENGES : Systems & Investment • Priorities given to “customer” projects • External spend capped • Internal resources limited • Legacy systems (no ERP) • Business issues Volcanic ash Industrial action Economy Merger / Year End Major constraint for all Airlines, we are not cash rich!
How to overcome challenges? • CFO sign off • Expert in-house systems knowledge • Systems already bespoke • Communication is the key! • Monthly Steering group meetings • Weekly working group meetings • Workshops with :- • Stakeholders • IT departments • Staff • Consulting with Industrial representatives
Current Issues Engagement with the business areas • Engineering conflict and project priorities • Customer service focus on merger External dependencies • Service Providers • 3rd party suppliers Internal constraints • Finite resources & expertise over too many projects
Opportunity Review internal processes • Lean & Continuous improvement Business area processes standardised More efficient organisation Built in-house systems solutions
Passenger Although already IDEC, major systems changes required due to legacy system and need to automate Interline rejections System & attachments = 1,700 man days Support both old and new IDEC simultaneously Business process change • Required detailed analysis Training
Cargo Use current supplier of Cargo Revenue System (Rapid) or develop a new solution? • Complicate accounting • Split processing • Support two systems / solutions Stay with Rapid, Mercator system Complicated by system upgrade together with delivery of SIS functionality, 100 man days. Mail Revenue part of Cargo but handled via Misc
UATP Existing paperless process with electronic data submitted to/from UATP ATCAN system since June 2000, with the ATCAN – ICH interface implemented in November 2006. Agreement reached on Integration of UATP into SIS to replace existing electronic ATCAN-ICH interface. UATP / Airlines Working Group recommend use of ATCAN/SIS interface to save on transaction costs & development effort. Existing UATP ATCAN – ICH interface process will remain as-is until UATP notify otherwise. For further information please contact your regional UATP Operations Manager or www.uatp.com
Miscellaneous Extremely complex, diverse activity without any limits! Therefore we have designed IS-XML solution to manage the accounting of Miscellaneous via Charge Category / Charge Code Impacting all areas of the business especially as we have decentralised billing Update to RAM Clearly defined business rules for Misc billings Questions and issues will be ongoing for a long time (moving from stone age to space age)
Miscellaneous Don’t underestimate the detail, map everything step by step………. • Legal compliance (tax, vat, digital signature etc) • Location point of billing • Direct account allocation • Testing, testing, testing……. • Training If you don’t understand, ASK SIS!
SIS Summary BA is committed to delivering SIS Encourage airlines to migrate sooner Must understand the SIS requirements ISPG File formats Get it right first time
