About the Prize This prize was named after Alfred Nobel, who created dynamite. The prize is awarded by the king of Sweden. The categories for the prize are, peace, physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and economics. Some past winners are Wilhelm Rontger for x-rays, Henry Dunant and Fredric Passy for the red cross, Ernest Hemingway for literature, Albert Einstein for physics, and Martin Luther King Jr. for peace. The criteria for winning is that it stands the test of time and is important to the world. The prize includes a medal and a big check.
Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Prize for peace in 1964. He was born on January 15, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia and was murdered by a white racist on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1963, he gave his famous,” I Have a Dream” speech. Martin was against racism.
