Connection Managing self This competency is associated with self-motivation, a “can-do” attitude, and with students seeing themselves as capable learners. It is integral to self-assessment. Students who manage themselves are enterprising, resourceful, reliable, and resilient. They establish personal goals, make plans, manage projects, and set high standards. They have strategies for meeting challenges. They know when to lead, when to follow, and when and how to act independently.
Phase One - Teacher Immersion • Setting a Goal to build the language into my teaching • Making Connections – catching children being Life-Long Learners • Reflecting (How did I go? Where to next?)
Phase Two - Embedding • Questions • Setting goals – how do we monitor/ assess this? • Reflecting
Phase Three - Integration • Setting goals (explicit planning) • Production – taking risks, persevering, reflecting
Beyond the classroom • Is Life Long Learning just something we do at Red Beach? • Journals between home and school… • Natalia and swimming
Rm25 think… • Persevere means to never give up! • Reflect means to think about my learning. • Setting goals and making plans means to ask myself where to next? • Taking risks means I might be scared , or I might not know…but I have a go anyway. • Questioning means asking to learn more. • Self-motivation means being responsible for our learning.
