Health Savings Accounts (HSA) • Financial account that is owned by you and is portable • Must be paired with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP-BlueEdge) • Contributions to the account are to pay for eligible healthcare expenses or saved for future healthcare expenses - all 213(d) eligible expenses • No “use it or lose it”, unused funds roll over • Tax advantages • Contributions are pretax • Interest earned or investment gains are tax free • Distributions are not taxed if used for qualified healthcare expenses • Investment opportunities • Qualified healthcare expense must be incurred on or after the HSA was established • 2012 maximum per calendar year • $3,100 employee-only, $6,250 employee + • $1,000 catch-up option for account holders 55 and older.
New FSA Vendor - ADP • Effective July 1st ADP is a new FSA vendor • E-Flex will handle the run-out for 2011-2012 plan year claims through 09/15/2012 • If you are a healthcare plan participant you will benefit from: • Direct crossover for out-of-pocket participant expenses – no more paper forms to submit • Debit card works on RX only • If you are not a healthcare plan participant: • Debit card works everywhere
Traditional FSAs • This account offers a way to help you save money by having pre-tax money go towards your health care and dependent care expenses: • Health Care Savings Account • $2,500 maximum - New • Funds available immediately • Dependent Care Savings Account • $5,000 maximum if you and your spouse are filing jointly or • $2,500 if married and filing separately • If you DO NOT use all the money in your Health FSA accounts by September 15th, 2012 you will lose it! • If you DO NOT use all the money in your Dependent Care FSA by June 30th, 2012 you will lose it!
Limited Purpose FSA • If you are participating in the BlueEdge High Deductible healthcare Plan, you can elect to contribute to a Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account • The Limited Purpose FSA does have a “Use It Or Lose It” provision for any funds leftover at the end of the year • The Limited Purpose FSA is for dental and vision expenses only • Min = $0, Max - $2,500 per benefit plan year (July, 1st – June, 30th) • Grace period on claims – September, 15th
