Child health team Nirupa Dattani • Produced first release of infant mortality figures by ethnicity, England & Wales by linking ONS birth and infant deaths data to NHS numbers for babies records • Produce ‘unexplained infant deaths’ annual reports • Produce ‘conceptions’ data

Congenital anomalies team Vera Ruddock • Manages the congenital anomaly system • Historic system that needs a number of improvements • Currently carrying out a review of the best way to improve congenital anomaly statistics Vera will lead the relocation of child health work from London to Newport, in 2009
Disabilities & health measurement team Chris White • Produce estimates of Health Life Expectancy and Disability-free Life expectancy • Developing standards for harmonising survey questions covering general health and chronic disability • Investigating the impact of changes to survey and question design on health expectancy indicators

What we are responsible for • Answering mortality parliamentary questions • Answering ad hoc customer queries, and supplying datasets • Reporting: • Sub-national life expectancy figures • Drug-related deaths • MRSA and C. difficile deaths • Excess Winter Mortality figures • Carrying out research on mortality data: • Premature mortality • Urban / rural mortality
