Martin Luther King Jr. was born at Noon on January 15, 1929 at the family home in Atlanta to Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King.
In September 1935, Martin went to Yonge Street Elementary School. He also attended… *David T. Howard Elem. School *Atlanta University Laboratory School *Booker T. Washington High School
In June 1944 – He entered Morehouse College at the age of 15. He skipped 9th and 12th grades, and had incredible University entrance exam scores in 11th grade.
In 1948, he was ordained as a Baptist Minister and graduated from Morehouse College. He entered Crozer Theological Seminary – where he was chosen Senior Class President, delivered the valedictory address, and won the most outstanding student award.
On June 18, 1953, Martin Luther King Jr. married Coretta Scott at her family’s home in Alabama. His father performed the ceremony.
From 1954 to 1959, he was pastor of the Dexter Avenue Church in Alabama.
In June 1955, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. received his Ph. D. in theology from Boston University. He has also received numerous honorary degrees from various universities, and he spent some time studying at Harvard University.
On December 1, 1955 – Mrs. Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama.
Four days later, Martin Luther King Jr. was elected president of the Montgomery Improvement Association and began a yearlong boycott of the Montgomery buses.
In January of 1956, Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested for the first time for a traffic violation.
In January 1957, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded, and Dr. King was chosen president. In 1957, he was also selected as one of the ten most outstanding personalities of the year by Time magazine.
In February 1959, Dr. King and his wife, Coretta visited India. They studied Mahatma Gandhi’s methods of nonviolent protest.
In January 1960, The King family moved to Atlanta, where MLK Jr. became Co-Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church with his father, MLK, Sr.
In February of 1960, Students in Greensboro, N.C., staged the first “sit-in” at a “Whites Only” lunch counter.

On October, 19, 1960, MLK was jailed after being arrested at a “sit-in” at a “Whites Only” lunch counter in Atlanta.
In May 1961, “Freedom Riders” left Washington, D.C. by Greyhound Bus. The bus was burned by opponents of desegregation, and the riders were beaten upon arrival in Birmingham.
On April 12, 1963, Martin was arrested and jailed for the 13th time during a march in Birmingham, Alabama.
In May of 1963, Dogs and fire hoses were used by police in Birmingham to stop protests.
On August 28, 1963, 250,000 people demonstrated in Washington, D.C. in support of Civil Rights. MLK met with President John F. Kennedy and delivered his “I have a dream…” speech.
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
In 1963, Time Magazine named Martin Luther King, Jr. as “Man of the Year.” MLK was the youngest man, second American, and third black man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in December 1964!
